Housing is a building whose main function is to provide shelter and room for people, protecting them from inclement weather and other natural hazards. Public housing is a type of real property in which the property is held by a governmental authority that may be central or local. Social housing is an umbrella term that refers to rental housing (rent) charge and state-owned, a nonprofit organization, or a combination of both, usually with the goal of providing affordable housing.
Although the common goal is to provide affordable housing, details, terminology, definitions of poverty and other criteria for the allocation vary.
